Two Organizations Aim to Expand Integration Possibilities
As the security industry evolves towards an IP mindset, manufacturers, integrators and even end users are starting to voice concerns over convergence and how to reconcile the specific needs of a particular installation with current interoperability limitations. Last week, PSIA released its third specification for public review - the Video Analytics draft specification, version 0.9, started from an existing ObjectVideo framework and was modified through input from analytics providers, processor providers, VMS providers, and even consumers, explains Bob Cutting, chair of the Video Analytics working group and vice president, product management for ObjectVideo.

PSIA releases first analytics output specification
"It doesn't have to take into account the specifics of any one analytics platform," said Bob Cutting, VP of product management at ObjectVideo and chairman of the PSIA's Analytics Working Group. "It's not really that difficult to get on the same page with what is an event ... It really comes down to a finite set of information and most analytics manufacturers already provide it."

Shortening the Learning Curve
Analytics can now be deployed using a centralized or decentralized model as appropriate for the application and available resources. Cameras from a number of manufacturers now can be ordered with specific analytic features or a combination of features built directly into cameras at the factory. Devices now can come loaded with an entire suite of password-activated features so that detection features can be upgraded remotely via software with just a few keystrokes.
